INTRODUCTION ABOUT ONDEM MD 8MG TABLET
ONDEM MD 8MG TABLET contains Ondansetron, which belongs to a group of medicines called Anti-emetics. It is used to manage nausea and vomiting induced by chemotherapy or radiotherapy. ONDEM MD 8MG TABLET is also used after surgeries (operation) to manage nausea and vomiting.
Before taking ONDEM MD 8MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you have severe constipation, heart or liver problems, imbalance with the levels of salts in the blood, such as potassium, sodium and magnesium or if you have been scheduled for any surgery.
ONDEM MD 8MG TABLET may be consumed during pregnancy and breastfeeding after consultation with a doctor. The dose of ONDEM MD 8MG TABLET will depends on the age, body weight and disease condition of your child. Dosage adjustment is not required in elderly patients, hence consult your doctor before taking ONDEM MD 8MG TABLET.
The most common side effects of taking ONDEM MD 8MG TABLET includes headache, flushing and constipation. Consult your doctor if any of these above symptoms gets worse.

HOW ONDEM MD 8MG TABLET WORKS
ONDEM MD 8MG TABLET is a serotonin 5-HT3 receptor antagonist (specific chemical receptor) which works by blocking serotonin receptors in CTZ chemoreceptor trigger zone (zone in the brain that is responsible for causing nausea and vomiting).
DIRECTIONS FOR USE
Take ONDEM MD 8MG TABLET as advised by your physician. It can be taken with or without food.
For Tablet, Capsule: Swallow ONDEM MD 8MG TABLET with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine.
For Dispersible Tablet: Disperse the medicine in the specified quantity of water as mentioned in the label. Consume the medicine immediately after reconstitution.
Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration of therapy for you depending upon your age, body weight and severity of the infection.
SIDE EFFECTS OF ONDEM MD 8MG TABLET
COMMON
- headache
- flushing (feeling of warmth)
- constipation
UNCOMMON
- uncontrolled body movements along with upward rolling movement of the eyeballs
- fits (seizures)
- irregular heartbeat (fast or slow)
- chest pain
- fainting or feeling dizzy (low blood pressure)
- hiccups
RARE
- visual disturbances like blurred vision
- effects of heart rhythms resulting in feeling lightheaded or loss of consciousness
Stop taking ONDEM MD 8MG TABLET and contact your doctor if you experience any of the following side effects:
- sudden wheezing and chest pain or tightness
- swelling of eyelids, face, lips, mouth or tongue
- skin rash, red spots or lumps under your skin (hives) or anywhere on the body
HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS
Headache:
Take rest. Have good amount of sleep. Have a balanced diet and at regular intervals. Add more fluids to your diet. Drink plenty of water to replenish water stores.
Constipation:
Eat plenty of fibre rich foods such as fresh fruits, vegetables, and cereals. Drink water and exercise regularly. Contact your doctor if constipation persists.
Dizziness:
Lie down until the dizziness passes and get up slowly. Do not bend down suddenly. Get a lot of rest. Walk slowly and carefully. Take plenty of fluids. Avoid drinking coffee, alcohol or smoking. Consult your doctor if the condition persists for long or gets worsened.
