INTRODUCTION ABOUT OLET 1.25 TABLET

OLET 1.25 TABLET is used in the management of schizophrenia and severe manic episodes of bipolar disorders and its recurrence. It contains a medicine called Olanzapine which is an Antipsychotic agent. It works by blocking certain brain receptors for dopamine and serotonin, which helps reduce symptoms like hallucinations and mood swings in conditions like schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.

Along with this management, your doctor might ask you to make certain lifestyle changes, such as eating a healthy diet, regular exercise and quitting alcohol. Prior to the management, your doctor may want you to take several blood tests to understand your existing condition. Avoid consumption of alcohol during management with OLET 1.25 TABLET as it can make you feel drowsy.

OLET 1.25 TABLET is not recommended for use in patients previously diagnosed with eye problems like glaucoma or dementia in the elderly. Before taking OLET 1.25 TABLET, inform your doctor if you have history of blood clotting, stroke, Parkinson’s disease, prostate, intestine, heart, liver or kidney disease, diabetes, and seizures.

OLET 1.25 TABLET should be used with caution among women who are pregnant. Consult your doctor before taking it. OLET 1.25 TABLET is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women and in children less than 18 years of age. OLET 1.25 TABLET should be used with caution in elderly patients with dementia as it can cause death. The most common side effects of taking OLET 1.25 TABLET are changes in the levels of some blood cells, weight gain, sleepiness and feeling dizzy.

USES OF OLET 1.25 TABLET

Used in the management of the following psychotic conditions such as

  • Schizophrenia (seeing, hearing, or sensing things that are not real, mistaken beliefs, unusual suspiciousness, becoming withdrawn, feeling sad, anxious or tensed)
  • Severe manic episodes of bipolar disorder and its recurrence

HOW OLET 1.25 TABLET WORKS

OLET 1.25 TABLET contains Olanzapine which is an antipsychotic medication that works by altering the activity of certain chemicals in the brain, particularly dopamine and serotonin. It blocks receptors for these chemicals, which helps reduce symptoms like hallucinations, delusions, and mood swings in conditions like schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. By balancing these neurotransmitters, olanzapine helps stabilize mood, improve thinking, and reduce agitation.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

For Tablet: Take OLET 1.25 TABLET as advised by your physician. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine.

For Mouth Dissolving or Orally disintegrating tablet: Place the medicine inside your mouth and allow it to dissolve completely. Do not swallow or chew the medicine.

For Dispersible Tablet (DT): Drop the medicine in a glass of water and allow it to dissolve. Consume the mixture once the medicine dissolves completely.

Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration of therapy for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition. Continue to take OLET 1.25 TABLET for the stipulated duration prescribed by your doctor to achieve better results.

SIDE EFFECTS OF OLET 1.25 TABLET

COMMON

  • weight gain
  • sleepiness
  • increases in levels of prolactin in the blood, changes in the levels of some blood cells, circulating fats and liver enzymes
  • feel dizzy (with a slow heart rate), especially while getting up from a lying or sitting position
  • increases in the level of sugars in the blood and urine and of uric acid and creatine phosphokinase in the blood
  • restlessness, tremor, unusual movements (dyskinesias)
  • constipation, dry mouth
  • rashes
  • loss of strength, extreme tiredness, feeling more hungry
  • water retention leading to swelling of the hands, ankles, or feet
  • fever, joint pain
  • sexual dysfunctions (decreased libido in males and females or erectile dysfunction in males)

UNCOMMON

  • hypersensitivity (swelling in the mouth and throat, itching, rash)
  • worsening of diabetes, at times associated with ketoacidosis (ketones in the blood, urine) or coma
  • seizures, muscle stiffness (even eye movements)
  • syndrome of restless legs, problems with speech (stuttering)
  • slow heart rate
  • sensitivity to sunlight
  • bleeding from the nose
  • abdominal distension
  • drooling
  • memory loss or forgetfulness
  • lack of ability to urinate
  • hair loss
  • absence or decrease in menstrual periods
  • changes in breasts in males and females like an abnormal production of breast milk or abnormal growth

RARE

  • lowering of normal body temperature
  • abnormal rhythms of the heart
  • sudden unexplained death
  • inflammation of the pancreas with severe stomach pain and fever
  • liver disease(jaundice)
  • muscle disease presenting as aches and pains and painful erection
  • elderly patients with dementia may suffer from stroke, pneumonia, urinary incontinence, tiredness, visual hallucinations, rise in body temperature, redness of the skin and trouble walking. Some fatal cases have been reported in elderly

Stop taking OLET 1.25 TABLET and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:

  • unusual movement of face or tongue
  • blood clots in the veins especially in the legs (swelling, pain, and redness in the leg), which may travel through blood vessels to the lungs causing chest pain and difficulty in breathing
  • a combination of fever, faster breathing, sweating, muscle stiffness and drowsiness
